Having lived as a human in society for a long time, one often hears the phrase "the true self." Humans are creatures that live in packs, and to keep the pack—society—functioning smoothly, we are sometimes forced to wear masks and play a false version of ourselves to some extent. While people say, "I am just who I am," it goes without saying for all of you that things rarely work out that smoothly.
After wearing so many masks and playing so many different personas, how many people, upon reflection, realize they have completely forgotten how to take those masks off? Do you ever find yourself thinking, "This isn't the real me," while simultaneously tilting your head in confusion, wondering, "Then who exactly is the real me?"
If so, I want you to pause for a moment and consider this:
None of those masks or personas were borrowed from some unknown place; each and every one of them was born from within your own heart. Even if you were influenced by various external factors, it was none other than you who took them in, shaped them, and turned them into a mask.
This song is about that "you" holding hands with yourself.
The unadorned, seemingly "true" you, And the dressed-up, seemingly "false" you...
Both flow from the exact same source.
